Welcome to Second Grade!
I am very excited to have the opportunity to learn and grow with your second grader this year! I graduated from Meredith College with a degree in mathematics and K-6 teaching license. I taught second grade for eight years in Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools. During this time I attended Appalachian State University where I received my Masters in Reading Education. In 2006 I became a National Board Certified teacher. In 2015 I received AIG certification from Duke University. I was blessed to have the opportunity to stay at home with my children for few years.
Second graders become more experienced writers, readers, and mathematicians. They are adapting to rigorous independent work and group work as they are learning in different forms. I look forward to working with you and your child to help them to read longer and more complex texts and understand the mathematical concepts they do.
